Hi, my name is Pieter, I am 43 years old and I live in Leiden with my wife and two daughters.

Out of interest, I started a sports massage training next to my work as a researcher in the pharmaceutical industry. A world opened up for me, but it was not more than a hobby that got out of hand at the time. Still, it started to itch more and more and I joined the massage team of BMS (interest group for Massage and Sports Care Professionals) and I decided to make a complete career switch and fully focus on massage. I was apprenticed to a massage parlor where I gave hundreds of Relaxation, Neck, Shoulder, Back, and Sports massages. In the meantime I followed a chair massage course and I am currently training to become a massage therapist.

The past year was difficult for everyone and many people now work at home behind their laptop and at the kitchen table. Although this also has a few advantages (such as, for example, less travel time), this way of working also regularly produces complaints that often manifest themselves in the neck, shoulder and back. It is also more difficult to get away from work at home and people are “working longer and longer” (stress).

Massage makes an enormous contribution in the field of “sustainable employability” by helping to reduce (pain) complaints and helping to “turn off” (relaxation). I want to reach as many people as possible with and without complaints through a masseur at the door and thus contribute to the physical and mental health of everyone who needs it.
